My grandmother used to prepare this timeless chow-chow for us every year during our childhood… What a cherished memory! Today, I decided to recreate it for my own family, and it turned out incredibly flavorful and delicious—definitely a hit!
Ingredients:
- 1 small cabbage, chopped
- 6 to 8 green or red tomatoes, chopped
- 6 medium bell peppers, chopped
- 6 large onions, chopped
- 2 hot peppers, chopped
- 3 cups sugar
- 5 cups white vinegar
- 1/4 cup salt (pickling salt is also suitable)

Instructions:
- Start by taking a large pot and combining all the ingredients. Bring them to a boil. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat and simmer until the desired tenderness is achieved, usually around 20 to 25 minutes.
- Transfer the cooked chow-chow into pint jars and seal them. This recipe typically yields 8 to 9 pints. If you’re looking to use it for a single dinner, I recommend scaling down the recipe accordingly.
Enjoy this delightful homemade chow-chow with your loved ones!
