Homemade Chicken and Dumplings

Homemade Chicken and Dumplings Recipe:


  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 medium carrots
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 500 ml heavy cream
  • 2 medium chicken breasts
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 chicken broth cubes
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 2 teaspoons parsley
  • 4 teaspoons butter

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon parsley (for sprinkling)

Homemade Chicken and Dumplings


  1. In a 2-liter pot, sauté chicken breasts with butter until the color changes. Remove from heat, set aside. Add onions and carrots to the pot, sautéing over low heat until softened. Add peas, chicken broth, and half of the heavy cream.
  2. Return the sautéed chicken to the pot and let it simmer over low heat.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt to make the dumpling dough. Gradually mix in the remaining heavy cream until a dough forms.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering chicken mixture. Sprinkle with thyme and parsley.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer over medium heat for an additional 20 minutes, letting the dumplings cook and the flavors meld.
  6. Serve and enjoy your homemade chicken and dumplings!

Note: Omit additional salt if using chicken broth cubes. Adjust seasoning to taste.
