Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Semi-sweet chocolate morsels (like Toll House)
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz) bag of caramels
  • 1 1/3 cups water (or as needed for cake mix)
  • 1/3 cup butter (or as needed for cake batter)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 box (18 oz) German chocolate cake mix

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get things started.
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with a touch of butter or cooking spray.
  3. Follow the instructions on the cake mix package to prepare the batter, then pour half of it into the prepared pan.
  4. Bake the batter for 15 minutes at 350°F (175°C) until it sets.
  5. While the cake is baking, melt the caramels, 3/4 cup of butter, and evaporated milk in a saucepan until smooth. Once the cake is done baking, pour this caramel mixture evenly over the top.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped pecans over the caramel layer.
  7. Pour the remaining cake batter over the top and return it to the oven to bake for another 20 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
  8. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.

Frosting:

  1. In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with unsweetened chocolate. Remove from heat and stir in corn syrup, vanilla, confectioners’ sugar, and milk until smooth. Spread this frosting over the cooled cake.

Enjoy the decadent goodness of this irresistible treat!
